As the name suggests, airborne captures butterflies in mid flight.
The beautiful blue morpho is one of the world’s biggest butterflies. It’s striking blue wings are iridescent, and edged with black. The underside of the wings are a deep brown pattern with multiple eyespots, making the morpho perfectly camouflaged when its wings are closed. In flight, these contrasting colours give the illusion that the morpho is appearing and disappearing.
Airborne features around 40 butterflies, capturing a moment in time usually too fast for the human eye to appreciate.
The butterflies are displayed inside a bell jar. Each butterfly is double-sided and individually hand cut, with black wire antennae. They are pierced and suspended on 1mm brass rods within the bell jar.
